  1. Artificial reefs are indeed barren [degraded] reef. So why put artificial reef in degraded reef..? According to studies, it may take few decades for artificial reef to aid reef rehabilitation. There are no concrete study yet to prove that an artificial reef can mimic a natural reef. In fact, studies show that there are lesser chances for artificial reefs to mimic a natural reef.

I doubt if there were studies to support that the ReefBuds project of the Sangkalikasan Cooperative has success stories or even proof of its effectiveness.

There is a better option to help restore the reef of Boracay. And that is, coral transplantation. It has been studied and done in Bolinao Marine Laboratory by UP-Marine Science Institute. In contrast with the ARs [Artificial Reefs], this one has more studies to prove that is effective.

We don't need an artificial substrate that costs 50million just to plant corals if it doesn't work. I guess, the local officials shall consider this kind of projects carefully.

    1. The Reefbud technology is a World Bank awarded innovation. It was utilized in Anilao, Batangas and in Rosario, Cavite. Sangkalikasan inspected both project sites and witnessed the positive results. Sangkalikasan utilized the DOST coral propagation method as an innovation to the existing technology. The Coral propagation method which is also utilized by UPMSI is practically a cloning method of Coral reproduction. The Reefbuds is right now host to also a multitude of coral buds or natural recruits. This combination will prevent weakening of coral genetic stock by not relying completely on the clones for reproduction but also natural recruits to create a more diverse genetic pool. You are obviously a Marine Biologist but not a very bright one. We are willing to discuss, debate issues with you at anytime. We know who you are so just approach us at anytime. Please also dive with us so we can show you the results of the Reefbud project.
